We just got connected with Rachel Brannan out of Houston, TX. Here’s a short story of her experiences helping the homeless in downtown Houston and how she found us at HHF.

“A girl with a great idea!  While taking some photos for Christmas cards with my family we noticed a few homeless people in downtown Houston. As usual we kind of just looked at them, and I thought to myself that we should really do something but we did not. A couple of days later the temperature was to drop down to 30 degrees which is FREEZING COLD for us Houstonians.  I could not stop thinking about the people under that bridge downtown…

I pledged I would collect or purchase at least 10 blankets, coats, backpacks filled with toiletries to these people.  And I was able to deliver at least 15! The following day, I promised my new friends (Rachel’s Homeless Homies…is what I call them) that I would return with even more blankets, coats and stuffed backpacks.

Christmas was coming and I could not forget about my friends!  I collected, purchased, picked up donations and delivered another 40+ stuffed backpacks along with candy canes, playing cards, rain ponchos, etc. to Rachel’s Homeless Homies.

I checked into the name….and whadda you know…..there was already a foundation!

Hello Homeless Homies… My name is Rachel Brannan and I would like to help!”

We are encouraged by Rachel and her desire to serve those less fortunate in Houston. We’ve just launched houston.rkin.org to assist her in communicating the needs. If you’re in Houston be sure to check the site to find out how you can help.
