Update on Rachel in Houston
by Homeless Homies Foundation • April 15, 2013 • Uncategorized
Houston has a large homeless population. More than 13,500 people are homeless at any given time and more than 40,000 people will experience temporary homelessness at least once throughout the year. There are many wonderful organizations serving the needs of Houston’s neighbors, but the need is plentiful.
Thanks to Rachel Brannan’s efforts in Houston, many needs are being full-filled and relationships being formed. Rachel’s Homeless Homies in Houston has engaged several organizations to collaborate and collectively serve their community. It’s inspiring to see. Keep it up, Rachel!
Easter Weekend:
Rachel organized over 30 volunteers to distribute 50+ backpacks full of t-shirts, toiletries, snacks, socks, ponchos, first aid kits, candy, pens, notepads and more to the homeless in downtown Houston. Here’s a group shot of the volunteers. It’s great to see so many kids there to join in the experience of serving our homeless homies.
Houston’s Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) was on hand to help organize and ensure the safety of everyone. HOT helps the homeless obtain social security cards, passports, birth certificates, shelter referrals, medical equipment, housing, jobs and more. It is a program run through the Houston Police Department. Order is greatly appreciated especially with a line this long!
Rachel also has organized and delivered several donation drop-offs to Parks Youth Ranch which is a great partner serving at risk and homeless youth by providing a safe, supportive, and structured environment. Here’s a picture of the donations she typically organizes and delivers. Cleanliness is next to Godliness!
And here’s our esteemed Houston’s Homeless Outreach Coordinator, Rachel Brannan. Keep up the tremendous work!
